El merxandatge de la religió - Religion's merchandising

La curiositat del dia... En alguna ocasió ja us he parlat del tema de la religió al Japó, en general la gent passa bastant del tema tot i que si els ho demanes la majoria et dirà que ho són, més per tradició que per convicció però normalment es declaren budistes, sintoistes o el més habitual que és ser seguidor de les dues al mateix temps. Ara bé, si passes una mica de temps per Tokyo un pot arribar a pensar que més enllà de les seves religions, els japonesos també són molt cristians i és que és bastant habitual veure gent portant símbols cristians, sobretot la creu, sigui com a penjoll, arrecades o samarretes, res més enllà de la realitat quan els ho demanes et diuen que només ho porten perquè els agrada, o sigui per un tema estètic sense més. Un altre exemple que ja havia comentat passa amb els casaments i la popularitat de les cerimònies catòliques.  Ahir però, em vaig topar amb un darrer exemple que em va deixar frepat, al arribar a l'oficina de cop m'adono que la companya del davant s'havia posat una estampeta de la verge Maria al seu escriptori!! Ilús de mi, vaig pensar que davant tal declaració d'intencions la companya havia de ser cristiana, o sigui que quan va arribar li vaig demanar...la resposta evidentment va ser antològica , no sabia ni qui era la verge Maria! Personalment, tot i que de catòlic en sóc poc, quan em trobo amb aquests exemples no deixa si m'és no de sorprendre'm. Aquesta línia fina que hi ha entre la sagrat i la banalització de les coses és bastant xocant, al punt que segurament molts dirien que fins i tot de manca de respecte. Ben mirat però, el mateix es podria dir a Occident quan s'utilitzen símbols de tots tipus de religions (budistes, hinduístes...) sense tenir ni punyetera idea del que representen...suposo que al final tot és molt relatiu!

Curiosity of the day...I already posted about religion in Japan, here in general people don't seem to be that much into it but when you ask them, most would declare themselves so, more for tradition than beliefs but usually they will say they are either buddhists, shintoists or the most common, following both religions. However, if you spend some time in Tokyo, one can think that beyond their traditional religions many japanese are christian as well since it is quite common to see people wearing christian symbols, particularly the cross, in a t-shirt, neckless or earrings...nothing further from the truth they just wear it because they like it, purely aesthetic! Similarly, the popularity of catholic style weddings is amazing. Yesterday though, I was faced to another example to freak out, when I got to the office I just realized the colleague in front of me had put a religious picture of virgin Maria in her desk!! At first, I fool myself thinking that she could be a christian person so when she came I asked her and...of course she told that even didn't know who was in that picture and simply like the drawing!  Although I'm not catholic, when I see these kind of examples I got quite surprised, these thin line between the sacred and the banality strikes me, and probably for many would even be quite disrespectful. Nonetheless, when you think twice about it, perhaps is not that different from the West using buddhist or hindu symbols without much understanding of what their represent, so I guess at the end everything is relative...
