It seems that vintage is the trend in Japan, the last example is the new (or restored) Tokyo station. Used to see architectural projects with bold designs and cutting edge technology, it is somehow striking to see this new building in Marunouchi, one of the big administrative areas in the city, surrounded by huge skyscrapers. Anyhow, after 5 long years of works, beginning of this last October the station was officially inaugurated with a facade completely restored following the original design of 1914 which was very much damaged after the WWII. The result it is said quite close to the original, some people likes it other not so...a matter of taste., in any case, I rather prefer to see this face than the facade covered of scaffolds and plastics that I was used to. Btw, as in any new big construction, the project also includes a huge commercial mall with goes from the station to the neighboring buildings.
