Tokyo de blanc i neu - White Tokyo and snow

Hola! feia temps que tenia el blog abandonat i res millor que un cap de setmana tranquil a casa per tornar-m'hi a posar i explicar-vos que portem dos cap de setmana consecutius nevant a Tokyo...sí sí nevant!!! i no una nevada qualsevol no, no havia caigut tanta neu a la capital des de fa 50 anys! Evidentment no es tracta d'una cosa normal a la ciutat i l'ha posat de potes enlaire. La setmana passada encara per sort va caure el dissabte i no va causar tants problemes com hauria passat entre setmana. És més els polítics encara la van utilitzar com excusa per la baixa participació en les eleccions pel govern de Tokyo que es van fer diumenge passat (tindran barra!) . I aquesta setmana quan la ciutat ja tornava a posar-se a to, ahir divendres va estar nevant hores i hores molt més dels que s'esperava i va acabar sent bastant problemàtic doncs molta gent que tornava de treballar es va trobar amb problemes de transport bastant evidents. Jo com que només agafo una línia de metro me'n vaig escapar, i després d'un sopar regenerador amb uns amics vaig sortir a tirar unes fotos. La veritat és que veure la ciutat envoltada d'una capa blanca, gairebé desèrtica i sense soroll va ser molt xulo i divertit...hauria d'haver vist les petinades dels homes, i sobretot dones, amb els seus "looks" d'oficina movent-se per la ciutat!

Hi!!! It's been ages I didn't write in the blog and nothing better than a quite weekend at home to get back to it and explain we had two consecutive weekends of heavy snow storm in Tokyo...yes, snowing in Tokyo!! and what is better, the biggest snow in the last 50 years in the capital! Obsviously this is not normal and create a huge mess in the city. Last week was still fine, besides regular issues you would expect, being on a Saturday people took it easy and stayed at home. Even more, the local politicians used it as an excuse to justify the very low participation in the Tokyo's elections (!!). This week however, when the city started to recover the normality it began again on Friday. I won't say was unexpected but it last much longer than expected and at the end it was much heavier than last week's. It created a huge mess with the transportation and lots of people had problems to get back home from work. In my case I was lucky since I only have to take one line of the subway, so I could get back home without problem and went out in the neighborhood for a warm dinner with some friends. After that I took the camera and went out to take some pics, was great to see the city under this very special white landscape, with hardly anyone around...and funny to watch those that still try to walk around with their office's shoes slipping everywhere! 

I un any més...el sakura ha arribat i marxat - Once again...Sakura came and left!

Ai, ai, ai...que fa un mes que no escric res...i a sobre en el període més famós de l'any...sí sí ja ha arribat el Sakura o sigui l'afloriment dels cirerers...i pràcticament es podria dir que ja s'ha acabat, en poc més de 10 dies exploten tots els cirerers per després perdre totes les flors en un obrir i tancar d'ulls. A sobre aquest any no han ajudat gaire les pluges que estem tinguent els últims dies. Amb tot, és en la durada efímera on recau la clau de l'èxit, romanticisme japonès que es tradueix en apfrofitar el moment al màxim, que vol dir riuades de gent als carrers i parcs, passejant, tirant fotos a tort i dret i cel.lebrant-ho amb amics, familiars o companys de feina en l'habitual festa "hanami" on gairebé tothom acaba amb una turca considerable. Els mals auguris han fet que aquest any no ho hagi pogut gaudir plenament perquè la setmana oficial de l'afloriment a Tokyo estava fora de viatge...tota una pena però bé encara vaig tenir temps de tirar algunes fotos. Aquí us deixo unes quantes imatges de l'ambient al voltant del riu Meguro, al costat de casa i un dels llocs més concorreguts en l'època dels cirerers :)

aish...it's been a month I don't write anything!!....and on top is the most famous period of the year...yes it's Sakura time or the cherry blossom period! But unfortunately I should rather say it's almost over, in about 10 days the cherry trees get full bloom to the loose their flowers in the wink of an eye. On top this year the rain we are having lately hasn't helped much. At the end however, it's in this short period of life that falls the success of it, Japanese romanticism which translates in getting the most of it in such a short time, meaning lots but lots of people in the streets and parks, walking, taking pictures everywhere and celebrating the typical "hanami" under the trees with friends, relatives or co-workers where usually most of them end up quite pissed. Unfortunately, this year I couldn't enjoy the most of it because during the official week of Sakura was out traveling ... a real pity but at least I was able to take some pictures before and after my trip. Below some images of the atmosphere around the Meguro river, nearby my place and one of the most popular spots during the Sakura season :)

De tan tranquil fa por - So quiet is scary

La curiositat del dia, aquesta nit estava amb en Cesc al metro camí cap a casa, anàvem parlant tranquilament quan de cop ens hem parat a una estació i ens hem adonat que ningú però absolutament ningú parlava al vagó, és més no hi havia cap soroll! No és la primera vegada que hem passa i en alguna ocasió ja us havia explicat de la pau i el silenci que es viu al metro on la gent aprofita per descansar i relaxar-se...ara bé no deixo de soprendre'm cada vegada que m'hi trobo i me'n faig creus comparat al xivarri i safareig que hi ha als transports occidentals :)

The feature of the day...tonight I was with a friend at the underground going back home, we were chatting as usual when suddenly we realized we were stopped at a station and noticed that no one but absolutely no one was talking in the car, what's more there wasn't a single noise! This is not the first time that happens something similar, actually it's quite common, as I mentioned in other posts, the underground is a place where people always takes the opportunity to take a break in their stressful lifestyle and try to relax and rest for a while...yet I'm still amazed of the situation every time it happens, nothing compared to the noisy and loudly transportation of the west :) 

 

Aire fresc a Tokyo! - Fresh air in Tokyo!

Matinal de diumenge asolellada amb un cel blau i clar que convidava a sortir al carrer....i dit i fet vaig aprofitar per fer una sortida en bici a un dels indrets més agradables de la ciutat, el riu Tama (Tamagawa), el qual juntament amb el riu Arakawa, són els dos grans rius que voregen la ciutat fins a desembocar a la badia de Tokyo. El Tama em queda relativament a prop de casa i voreja d'oest a est la ciutat, separant-la de la veïna Kawasaki (per tots els que heu estat al Japó, és el gran riu que es veu sortint de Tokyo en tren cap al sud), és un gran riu amb amples voralls on s'hi han instal.lat equipaments esportius de tota mena i hi ha un camí que s'allarga tot el recorregut del riu ideal per fer una mica de bici, córrer o simplement passejar. Quan un volta per allà, observant tota l'activitat al voltant, per moments oblides que estàs en una ciutat de 13 milions de persones, canalla jugant a beisbol, a futbol, fent gimnàs, practicant golf o fins i tot jugant a tennis i tot al costat del riu...maco de veritat :)!

Last Sunday we woke up with a lovely sunny day, winter here is cold but beauty as well, usually resulting in a clear and blue sky that invites going outdoors, and so did I. I took the bike (that I haven't for a while) and went cycling till the Tama river (Tamagawa), which together with the Arakawa river are the two big rivers surrounding Tokyo towards the bay. Tama river is relatively close to home and goes from west to east being the limiting line between Tokyo and the neighbor Kawasaki (yes is the river you can see from the train when going south from Tokyo), it's a big river with broad sides where it has been built all kinds of sports equipments and there is also a pedestrian path following all along the river perfect for cycling, running or simply going for a walk. One of the best places to enjoy outdoors activities in Tokyo, being there with all the activity around made one forget being in a city of 13M people, children playing beisbol, others football, fitness, practicing golf or even playing tennis...and all these next to the river, really a wonderful place to visit!

Sorpresa al llevar-me al matí! - Surprise when I woke up!

Déu ni do la que va caure la setmana passada! Dilluns passat, que era festa nacional, ens vem llevar amb una imatge de Tokyo d'allò més peculiar, va comenaçar a nevar de nit i al matí ja hi havia la ciutat sota una capa blanca de neu! No va ser una nevada qualsevol, després d'estar nevant tot el dia va deixar un gruix ben maco, diuen que va ser la nevada més important dels últims 10 anys!! La mostra està en que una setmana més tard encara es veu neu amontagada per la ciutat. Sembla que ara sí ha arribat l'hivern deixant una imatge que em recorda la meva estimada Suïssa, tot i que aquí sembla ser que no estan preparats i els dies que han passat han deixat imatges peculiars, per exemple curiós de veure el dia després molta gent intentant treure la neu amb aigua (!!)...sembla que no coneixen la sal o els hi agraden els esports de risc, de fet bastant divertida la imatge d'homes i dones guarnits amb els seus vestits perfectes, però passant-les canutes per moure's amb les sabates de taló o els mocasins...ja ho diuen que per lluir s'ha de patir :). Ara la imatge que més m'ha xocat ha estat veure gent que recollen les restes de neu que els queda davant la casa o botiga i la posen en boses de deixalles!! Sembla que no es poden esperar que es fongui...aquest pais no deixa de sorprendre'm.

What a snow storm we had last week! Last Monday, bank holiday in Japan, we woke up with a very peculiar view of Tokyo, it began to snow at night and in the morning there was already a thick layer of white snow covering the city! hey and it wasn't any snow but the heaviest of the last 10 years (!!), the best example is the snow remaining around after more than a week. So, indeed we suddenly entered the winter season with images of the Tokyo that made me remind my lovely Switzerland...of course with the difference that it seems here they are not that well prepared for it, as an example the day after were plenty of people was trying to "remove" snow with water...either they don't know about salt or they like extreme activities, actually it was quite funny to see all these businessmen and women with their perfect outfit trying to walk on the icy snow with heels or thin shoes...no way to go to work with boots or any other combination that could not fit perfectly with the style! Now, the most striking thing for me is to see people removing the last (few) piles of snow from their houses or shops and putting it in garbage bags!! ...it's like they cannot wait it melts or that they see it as litter...I think I don't get it.
