The feature of the day...tonight I was with a friend at the underground going back home, we were chatting as usual when suddenly we realized we were stopped at a station and noticed that no one but absolutely no one was talking in the car, what's more there wasn't a single noise! This is not the first time that happens something similar, actually it's quite common, as I mentioned in other posts, the underground is a place where people always takes the opportunity to take a break in their stressful lifestyle and try to relax and rest for a while...yet I'm still amazed of the situation every time it happens, nothing compared to the noisy and loudly transportation of the west :)

De tan tranquil fa por - So quiet is scary
La curiositat del dia, aquesta nit estava amb en Cesc al metro camí cap a casa, anàvem parlant tranquilament quan de cop ens hem parat a una estació i ens hem adonat que ningú però absolutament ningú parlava al vagó, és més no hi havia cap soroll! No és la primera vegada que hem passa i en alguna ocasió ja us havia explicat de la pau i el silenci que es viu al metro on la gent aprofita per descansar i relaxar-se...ara bé no deixo de soprendre'm cada vegada que m'hi trobo i me'n faig creus comparat al xivarri i safareig que hi ha als transports occidentals :)

Arquitectura vintage - Vintage architecture
Sembla ser que el vintage està de moda al Japó, el darrer exemple la nova (o restaurada) estació de Tokyo. Acostumat a veure projectes arquitectònics amb dissenys trencadors i enignyeria d'última generació, sobta trobar-te aquest nou edifici a Marunouchi un dels grans centres administratius de la ciutat rodejat per grans gratacels. Sigui com sigui, després de 5 llargs anys d'obres, a principis d'octubre es va inaugurar oficialment la nova estació amb una façaca completament restaurada copiant el disseny original de 1914 que havia quedat molt malmès des de la segona guerra mundial. El resultat diuen que bastant fidel a l'original, a alguns agrada a d'altres no tant...qüestió de gustos, en qualsevol cas prefereixo veure-li aquesta cara que la façana tapada amb plàstics i bastides que ens tenia acostumats :). Per cert, com en tota nova construcció, el projecte inclou la incorporació d'un enorme complex comercial que abarca la pròpia estació i alguns edifics adjacents...

Used to see architectural projects with bold designs and cutting edge technology, it is somehow striking to see this new building in Marunouchi, one of the big administrative areas in the city, surrounded by huge skyscrapers. Anyhow, after 5 long years of works, beginning of this last October the station was officially inaugurated with a facade completely restored following the original design of 1914 which was very much damaged after the WWII. The result it is said quite close to the original, some people likes it other not so...a matter of taste., in any case, I rather prefer to see this face than the facade covered of scaffolds and plastics that I was used to. Btw, as in any new big construction, the project also includes a huge commercial mall with goes from the station to the neighboring buildings.

Gossos en bici - Dogs riding bike
Surto del metro i em trobo aquest quadre davant meu....que gran, un jubilat japonès que treu a passejar el seus gossets...en una bicicleta elèctrica i els gossos montats en cistelles un a davant i l'altre al darrera!!. El tema gossos es mereix més d'un post, doncs és habitual veure la gent passejant els gossos dins de cotxets per la canalla, ara carregats en una bici mai vist! Atenció l'evolució històrica dels gossos, de ser mitjans de transport a ser transportats per l´ésser humà! I quina pinta més cofoia i gandula que feien aquests dos!! :)
Got out from the subway and bump into this image in front of me...brilliant, a Japanese retiree going for a walk with his dogs...by electric bike and the dogs mounted in baskets in the front and the back of the bike!! The subject of dogs deserve as well some posts, here is frequent to see people going for a walk with dogs mounted in strollers, but in a bike, never ever! Watch the historical evolution they've had, from being means of transport to being transported by human beings! And look what a pleased and lazy look they both had!! :)

La mosca tse-tse japonesa- The Japanese tse-tse fly
què deuen tenir els japonesos que tots dormen al metro??? aquesta és la típica pregunta que tothom es posa quan visita Tokyo per primera vegada. I és certament és una de les coses que xoquen més, acostumat a metros amb xivarri, sorolls, música...aquí res, el metro és com un espai zen de relaxació i tranquilitat (fins i tot quan els vagons van a petar), no hi ha gens de soroll, els mòbils s'han de tenir sense so, la gent no parla i a totes hores la gent aprofita per dormir o simplement tancar els ulls. Tothom hi acaba caient, grans i joves, treballadors o estudiants, homes o dones...i per què? doncs no ho acabo de tenir clar encara, m'han dit que si és que com que la gent va molt cansada aprofiten qualsevol moment per recuperar, d'altres em diuen que és una solució per evitar mirades molestes entre passatgers...sigui com sigui el més sorprenent de tot és el sisè sentit que sembla que tenen per despertar-se just abans d'arribar a la seva parada, us ho asseguro gent que sembla que estiguin en un son ben profund de cop obren els ulls, s'aixequen i vinga cap a fora...a mi per contra ja m'ha passat més d'una vegada que també he caigut i al final m'he despertat unes quantes parades més amunt....
what do Japanese have that they all sleep in the subway?? typical question that any new comers in Tokyo will say at some point. Certainly this is one of the main things that draw the attention, used to noisy subways, music, voices...not here, the subway is a zen space of relaxation and peace (even in peak times when cars are overcrowded). there is no noise, mute cell phone, people don't talk much and at any time there is someone sleeping or simply with closed eyes (you never know...). Soon or later we all finally fall, elderly or young people, businessmen or students, men or women...and why?? well actually I still don't fully get it, I've been told it is because everyone is so tired that take any opportunity to try to catch up, others told me is simply the best solution to avoid uncomfortable glances...in any case the most surprising thing is this sixth sense they seem to have to wake up just before getting to stop, it's impressive even when they are in deep sleep suddenly they wake up, open their eyes and stand up to walk out...in my case however I've been there too but when I wake up I was already few stops away...

A Kobe en Shinkansen!
Aquesta setmana he anat a Kobe ara poca cosa us puc de la ciutat dons hi vaig anar per feina i bé doncs tampoc era plan d'escapar-me a donar el vol, hi hauré de tornar més endavant amb més calma...en tot cas el que us volia comentar és que vaig agafar el famós tren bala (Shinkansen) i per primera vegada vaig poder pujar en un Nozomi que és la versió més avançada i ràpida que tenen. Aquests tipus de shinkansen gestionats per la Japan Railways són els únics trens que no entren en el seu abonament (JR railpass, molt recomenat pels que vulguin venir de vacances per aquí) i per això encara no hi havia pujat. Agafa velocitats de 300km/h i gràcies això vaig poder fer 1000km en un dia amb una jornada laboral completa! La veritat és que el servei és collonut, els trens amb una imatge aerodinàmica molt xula i una vegada a dins us puc assegurar que són els trens més pulcres i nets que hi ha en el planeta! L'experiència sociòlogica interessant també...el col.lega del meu costat només entrar es va descalçar (tònica general) i en dos minuts dormint però ocupant espai sense miraments, un altre al costat estirat a sobre tres seients roncant com una soca, dos paios al davant fotent-se birres a fons van sortir ben contents, un altre a darrera amb una tele portàtil a fons, molts menjant qualsevol cosa i de tant en tant el revisor que passava fen reverències a tort i dret. Divertit.
This week I went to Kobe but I can't say a lot since I went for work and well it wouldn't have been very nice to go out and hang around, I will have to go back later on with more time...in any case what I wanted to say is that I took the famous bullet-train (Shinkansen) and for the first time I could take the Nozomi which is the fastest and most advance version they have. These kind of Shinkansen are managed by the Japan Railways company and are the only ones that are not included in their holidays ticket (JR railpass, highly recommended if you want to come here) and that's why I hadn't used them yet. It takes a speed up to 300km/h and thanks to that I could do around 1000km in one day with a complete working day! Honestely the service is excellent, the trains have an amazing aerodinamic layout and once inside I can guarantee they are the tidiest and cleanest trains in the planet! The sociological experience was interesting as well...the man next to me went barefoot just starting (seems the general trend) and fell sleep immediately taking up all espace possible without any consideration, another one sitting on the other side layed out taling up three seats and snoaring deeply, in front two men spent the journey drinking beers and went out half-drunk, behind me there was someone watching TV really loudly, many people eating all kinds of food and from time to time the controler came in bowing everywhere. Funny...
