M'encanta el (bon) sushi! - Love (good) sushi!

Today I am celebrating, it's two years since I'm in Japan! Incredible but true, time flies and it seems it was yesterday I got to Tokyo with my suitcase filled with hopes but more lost than being in a jungle . Hence, this post has to be special and I thought on dedicating it to one of the most gastronomic pleasures, sushi! After two years I've had the opportunity to deepen and to experiment japanese cuisine, surprisingly rich and varied, before coming to Japan I'd have never thought that it could be so extensive, nonetheless after all this time when people ask me "what is your favourite dish?"...I have no doubts to reckon I'm a big fan of the topic of the topics...sushi! Provided it is with quality and in specialized restaurants of course, because sushi is something that at first glance looks simple but actually has a complexity and history behind that few can compare with. The basic ingredients are clear, rice and fish, but beyond this there is a mix of combinations and preparations that give an endless world of flavours and sensations! To me, sushi is a great example of important Japanese values, minimalism, natural, balance, perfectionism...to have the opportunity to see a sushi master (it takes years and years to become one) working, is a great entertainment for your senses. Since I'm Japan I've been to several sushi restaurants, some simpler other more expensive, in general however it is unlikely you feel disappointed. Just getting into a good restaurant, you are surrounded by an atmosphere that goes beyond the primary role of restaurants, it is food transformed to art! Amongst them, there is one particularly in Ebisu, Sushi Matsue, to which I have been bond since long time ago and became one of my favourites (and of many of my visitors in Japan as well :)). I first visited it by chance when I came on holidays to Japan and it turned out to be a key element, or better a sign of life, that brought me finally to Japan. Therefore, in this special day here some pics of the yummy sushi treats...mmm!

Nikko!!!!!

And after almost two years in Japan, finally I visited Nikko!! Yes, Nikko is a town located in the mountains about two hours from Tokyo but still within the Kanto region and well it is one of the most popular tourist attractions of the country...that's the reason why I didn't visit it yet, I knew that soon or later I would go there taking the opportunity of one of the visitors coming to Japan. So finally with the visit of Carlos and Julia, who came from Switzerland we did a short stay of two days last week. Nikko considered as world cultural heritage by the Unesco, has plenty of gorgeous temples from long long time ago, amongst them Toshogu shrine, probably the most colorful and detailed shrine of Japan. Besides the cultural aspects, Nikko is an ideal spot to enjoy nature and outdoors activities. Located at the heart of a natural park, is the perfect place for trekking in the mountains, with lakes and water-falls. And all this without forgetting the thermal baths (onsen) and the enjoyment of the local gastronomy, a binomial never missed in this country! Nikko can be visited within a day excursion from Tokyo but I recommend to stay there at least one night.

Aquí l'equip a l'entrada del santuari Toshugo, realment espectacular, immens i amb detalls super treballats. L'original data dels anys 700-800 a.c.

Mitama Matsuri or the Lights´Festival!

Us deixo algunes fotos.

I quina pinta més cofoia i gandula que feien aquests dos!! :)

Got out from the subway and bump into this image in front of me...brilliant, a Japanese retiree going for a walk with his dogs...by electric bike and the dogs mounted in baskets in the front and the back of the bike!! The subject of dogs deserve as well some posts, here is frequent to see people going for a walk with dogs mounted in strollers, but in a bike, never ever! Watch the historical evolution they've had, from being means of transport to being transported by human beings! And look what a pleased and lazy look they both had!! :)

Hello! I'm back ! Again in Tokyo :) and I'd say it seems I had forgotten how the summer is...the hot and humid weather is already here and well I rather prefer other seasons to live in a city like this, luckily our japanese are well prepared to face the coming two months. If sometime ago I wrote about the "anti-cold" measures for winter time, today I want to talk about the summer innovations against heat "cool Japan"!!

1. The first group are all kind of devices made to make wind: from the traditional ones to the most sophisticated, high-tech or not so developed...the point here is to make wind and that it circulates!!

El meu favorit...sense comentaris!!! My favorite...no comments!!! :)

2. The second big group are all accessories and inventions to refresh oneself and cool down the body temperature. With a broad and varied market, here we find very japanese stuff, from wet tissues for your neck or head, to more unique clothes like "cool leggins" or frozen pillows!

Cool leggins!! gotta try maybe...

3. And finally the third biggest group by far is one of the most important subjects of this society...how to keep beer cool!! What else? any kind of stuff meant to keep beer in a good temperature outside of the fridge of course. I tell you, you would be amazed of the market size...and for those aiming for something more, the summer hit, frozen beer or better say cold beer with frozen foam, not bad!
